The Meteorological Department (IMD) estimates that cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy’ is expected to intensify further in the next 24 hours. According to the IMD, Cyclone Biparjoy is currently located about 700 km west of Goa, 620 km west-southwest of Mumbai and 600 km south-southwest of Porbandar.
The IMD has further warned that Biparjoy is likely to cause heavy rains and strong winds in the coastal areas of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. IMD has also issued Yellow Alert for many districts of Kerala.
Monsoon will advance in other parts of Kerala
The IMD said “The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Biparjoy lay centered about 700 km WNW of Goa, 620 km WSW of Mumbai, 600 km SSW of Porbandar and 910 km S of Karachi.
The Meteorological Department has predicted that the monsoon is likely to advance into the remaining parts of Kerala within the next two days. Earlier, it was feared that Cyclone Biparjoy, after hitting the Kerala coast on June 8, could delay the progress of the monsoon.

Chance of heavy rain in Gujarat
Cyclone Biparjoy is also affecting Gujarat and IMD has predicted heavy rains in the state today. Tithal beach in Valsad district witnessed high waves, possibly due to the impact of cyclone Biparjoy, news agency ANI reported. The local authorities have closed Tithal Beach for tourists as a precautionary measure.
