Will CNG auto rickshaws be removed in Delhi? This question is coming in the minds of the people of the capital. Actually, it has been recommended to gradually remove CNG auto rickshaws from the roads. For this, a draft of EV Policy 2.0 has been prepared. According to the information received, new registration of CNG auto rickshaws can be stopped after August 15. This new policy will also affect two-wheelers and some suggestions have also been given in it for private car owners.
Recommendation to phase out CNG autorickshaws
The draft of Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0 recommends phasing out CNG-powered autorickshaws. The Delhi government may announce this policy soon. According to the draft of EV Policy 2.0, no CNG autorickshaw will be allowed to be registered from August 15 this year. CNG auto permits will not be renewed from August 15 this year and all such permits will be reissued only for e-auto permits.

The draft policy also recommends phasing out fossil fuel-powered vehicles carrying solid waste, which are used in large numbers by municipal bodies and city buses. During the policy period, all CNG autorickshaws older than 10 years will either be completely replaced, or will be fitted with new technology that will allow them to run on batteries. A recommendation in the draft policy also states that petrol, diesel, CNG-powered bikes will not be allowed from August 15, 2026.
What will happen to private car owners?
Similarly, the committee has recommended that registration of three-wheelers running on diesel, petrol, CNG will not be allowed in case of goods carrier vehicles from August 15, 2025. It has also recommended converting public transport buses operated by DRC and DIMTS into e-buses. With the introduction of the policy, DTC and DIMTS will buy only electric buses for city operations and BS four buses for inter-state service. Also, private car owners will have to buy electric cars only if they already have two vehicles. This recommendation will be effective after the notification of EV Policy 2.0.
