Center govt increased the minimum salary of these people, see details

The central government has announced to increase the minimum wage rate for workers to Rs 1,035 per day by making changes in the Variable Dearness Allowance.

The Labor Ministry statement said that the aim of this step is to help workers overcome the rising cost of living. After the amendment, the minimum wage rate in sector ‘A’ for unskilled labor engaged in unskilled work such as construction, cleaning, loading and unloading of goods will be Rs 783 per day (Rs 20,358 per month).

The minimum wage rate for semi-skilled labourers will be Rs 868 per day (Rs 22,568 per month) and for skilled, clerical and unarmed watchmen or guards it will be Rs 954 per day (Rs 24,804 per month). For highly skilled and armed watchmen or guards the minimum wage rate will be Rs 1,035 per day (Rs 26,910 per month).

When will the new rates be applicable?

The new wage rates will be effective from October 1, 2024. The last revision was done in April, 2024. The minimum wage rates are classified on the basis of skill levels – unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled as well as geographical areas A, B and C.

Ministry statement The Labour Ministry statement said that the Central Government has announced an increase in the minimum wage rates by revising the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) as an important step to support workers, especially those in the unorganised sector.
