The Canadian government has announced an increase in visa and processing fees, which was to come into effect from December 1, 2024. However, the new rates were not released due to Sunday. It is expected that the new fees will be announced after the office opens today, December 2.
Which visa categories will be affected?
This increase will affect all those who are in Canada on study, work or visit visas and want to apply for visa extension. Apart from this, categories like temporary residence, work permit, criminal rehabilitation, and permission to return to Canada will also be affected by this increase.
Current fees and estimated increase
So far, visa fees range from 229 Canadian dollars to 1148 Canadian dollars. An increase of about 20% is being estimated in this.
Who can avoid the new fees?
According to Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) department, applicants who submit applications before the fee hike comes into effect will not be affected by the increased rates.
What will be the impact on Indians?
New fees and strict visa procedures can increase challenges for Indian students, working professionals and tourists. A large number of people from areas like Punjab go to Canada for study and work visas, so this increase will have a wide impact.
Recent visa policy changes
Canada has also recently made changes in tourist and student visa rules. This is a clear indication that obtaining a Canadian visa may become more difficult in the coming times.
For those who are planning to move to Canada, it is important that they submit their applications as soon as possible keeping in mind the new rules and fee hike.
