The government has given great relief to goldsmiths and jewelers. Now jewelers will be able to sell non-hallmarked jewellery. However, the government has fixed a time limit for this.

According to the government’s announcement, till June 30, goldsmiths can sell their stock of jewelery without hallmarks. Let us tell you that from today i.e. from April 1, the government had banned the purchase and sale of non-hallmarked jewellery. But, just a day before this announcement by the government, jewelers and goldsmiths have got a big relief.

The government has given permission to about 16,000 jewelers to sell the old hallmarked gold jewelery declared till June 30. Now they have got three more months to finish their stock. However, this exemption is applicable to jewelery made before July 2021.

16 thousand jewelers will be benefited

About 16 thousand jewelers will benefit from this big decision of the government. According to the notification issued by the government, the government has amended the hallmarking order of gold jewelery in 2020. Under which the jewelers who had informed about their stock of old hallmarked jewelry have been given time till June 30, 2023 to sell them.

Let me tell you, there are 1.56 lakh registered goldsmiths in the country, out of which 16,243 jewelers had disclosed their stock of old hallmarked jewellery. Only those 16 thousand people have been given this extra time of 3 months.

Jewelery without hallmark will not be sold after June 30

According to the government’s announcement, after June 30, action will be taken against anyone who sells jewelery without hallmarks. They will have to liquidate their stock of old jewelery within this 3 months.

Let us tell you, the Government and the Bureau of Indian Standards i.e. BIS have implemented 6 digit HUID on gold jewelery from April 1. This 6 digit alphanumeric is mandatory on all gold jewellery.
