Which decision of the Supreme Court is being opposed
On August 1, the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court gave a major decision on reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The Supreme Court said that the states have the right to create quota within quota for reservation, that is, the state governments can create sub-categories for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes categories. Along with this, the Supreme Court also said that the principle of creamy layer applies to Scheduled Castes in the same way as it applies to OBCs. Many leaders including BSP supremo Mayawati are opposing this decision of the court.

What is quota within quota?
Quota within quota means implementing a separate reservation system within the already allocated percentage of reservation, so that the benefit of reservation reaches the needy who are often neglected. Let us tell you that the decision given by the five-judge bench of the Supreme Court in the case of EV Chinnaiya vs Andhra Pradesh Government in 2004 was completely opposite to this. Then the Supreme Court had said that the state governments cannot create sub-categories of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes for reservation in jobs. With this decision, the Supreme Court has overturned its old decision of 2004.

Our community has called for Bharat Bandh on 21 August in protest against the court’s decision. Our society is a peace loving society. We support everyone. Our society participates in everyone’s happiness and sorrow, but today our freedom is being attacked. On 21 August, we have to give a befitting reply to this in a peaceful manner.
