Getting a US visa is not that easy. The US now also monitors your social media posts. Yes, if you post on social media about certain issues, the US will cancel your visa without any warning.

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) itself has confirmed that social media activity can now influence visa-related decisions.

US immigration officials say the Donald Trump administration could deny visas or residency to people who post content deemed anti-Semitic. “There is no place in the US for terrorist sympathizers from around the world, and we are under no obligation to allow them to enter or remain in the United States,” Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Homeland Security, DHS, said in a statement.

Now the question is, what kind of Facebook, Twitter or Instagram posts can get your visa cancelled? So the US has explained this very well too. According to USCIS, social media activity in the name of anti-Semitic posts will also be banned. These include posts supporting terrorist groups like Hamas, Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The US considers all of these to be terrorist organizations.

According to the Economic Times, the statement said that the US Citizenship and Immigration Service will consider social media content as a ‘negative factor’ that indicates that a foreign person is supporting, promoting or advocating anti-Semitic terrorism, anti-Semitic terrorist organizations or other anti-Semitic activities.

The policy will take effect immediately and will apply to requests for student visas and permanent resident ‘green cards’ to stay in the United States. In fact, this official statement comes at a time when the Trump administration has canceled the visas of hundreds of international students within the US in the past few weeks. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in March that they have canceled the visas of about 300 people and that they are doing so daily.
