Maha Ashtami and Mahanavami festival will be celebrated on 11 October 2024, due to which banks will remain closed in many states. This day is an important time for the worship of Goddess Durga, when devotees worship her. All public and private sector banks will remain closed in Tripura, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Meghalaya. However, online banking services will continue to be available so that customers do not face any problem in banking services.

These forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped during Ashtami and Navami

Maha Ashtami: On this day, the Kali form of Goddess Durga is especially worshipped. It is considered a symbol of strength and courage. On Ashtami, the eighth of the nine forms of the Goddess is worshipped. Special rituals are performed on this day, such as havan and kanya pujan, in which virgin girls aged 2 to 10 years are worshipped.

Mahanavami (Navami): On this day, the Siddhidatri form of Goddess Durga is worshipped. The ninth of the nine forms of the Goddess is worshipped on Navami. This day symbolizes victory and is often celebrated as Vijay Dashami or Dussehra, when Goddess Durga conquered the demons.

October 11 (Maha Ashtami/Mahanavami/Ayudha Puja): Banks will be closed in Tripura, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Meghalaya on Friday.

October 12 (Dussehra/Mahannavami/Vijayadashami): Banks will be closed across all states on Saturday as it is also the second Saturday of the month.

October 13: Sunday

October 14 (Durga Puja): Banks will remain closed in Sikkim on Monday.

October 16: Lakshmi Puja (Agartala, Kolkata)

October 17: Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti / Kati Bihu

October 20: Weekly Holiday (Sunday)

26 October: Acquisition Day / Fourth Saturday in Jammu and Kashmir

October 27: Weekly Holiday (Sunday)

October 31: Diwali (Deepawali) / Kali Puja / Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti / Narak Chaturdashi
