This festival is celebrated with great pomp especially in the Garhwal region and many folk traditions are associated with it. It is believed that the news of Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya was received a little late in the mountains, so the local people celebrate it as Deep Parv a few days after Diwali. On this day, lamps are lit in homes and temples, devotional songs are sung, and Bhailo is played, which is a traditional game celebrated by lighting wooden torches.
