Bank Employee Salary Hike: Eight lakh bank employees are demanding salary hike. Bank unions want wage hike till December. If this does not happen, he has said of starting a big movement. IBA may soon hold talks with employees’ unions.

About eight lakh employees of banks have made up their mind to fight this time for their salary hike. The unions of the employees say that if the work regarding salary hike is not completed till December, then they will start a big movement from the new year. If this happens, it can create new problems for the government. Please tell that the next Lok Sabha elections are also to be held. The government has asked the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) to start the process of negotiating the 12th bipartite settlement for pay hike of employees and complete it by December 1.

IBA can negotiate with employee organizations

The Finance Ministry told the IBA that all future negotiations on wage hike should be completed before the end of the time period so that wage revision can be done on time. Under this, the IBA can start talks with the employees’ organizations and reach a conclusion regarding the increment on the basis of mutual consent. IBA deals with the issues related to bank employees like salary hike, pension etc. The heads of some public sector banks are also members of this organization. The organization acts as a bridge between the government and the bank unions.

Bank unions want concrete talks

Saumya Dutta, convenor of the ‘Bank Bachao, Desh Bachao’ forum, says that the government always gives such orders before elections, but it takes two to three years to complete them. We have been raising this demand since last year. Despite this, the government did not pay any attention. Now why is the government talking about paying attention to this demand before the Lok Sabha elections.

If the government’s thinking and intentions are correct, then soon this matter will be resolved. If this time again the government adopts the policy of stopping the tingling, then definitely we will stand against it. Last time talks started with IBA for another two per cent hike in wages. This time it will not work. We want concrete talks.

Employees have high expectations from the government

Ashwini Rana, founder of Vice of Banking, says that the employees have high expectations from the government this time. The government should keep this hope alive. If the performance of the banking sector is good then there should be a good increase in the salary of the bank employees. Significantly, the previous agreement was signed by 12 public sector banks, 10 old generation private sector banks and seven foreign banks. New generation private banks like HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank are not part of these negotiations.

Wage hike matter reached political arena?

The increase in the salary of bank employees was to happen in November 2022, but the talks have not even started yet. The employees are angry with the government regarding this. In the election year, the government is now feeling that this displeasure can cause problems in the elections.

Due to this, the government has asked IBA to conclude negotiations on wage hike from December and reach a final settlement. But it won’t be easy. The Finance Minister has admitted that the profits of public sector banks have increased three times in the last nine years. The performance of private banks was also good.

At the same time, the issue of inflation is also hot. Expectations regarding the salary hike of bank employees have increased a lot. The government seems to be a bit stuck on this issue. If this issue is not resolved by December, then the displeasure of the bank employees can be seen directly in the Lok Sabha elections.
