Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh is a state in the extreme north east of the country, formerly known as the North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA) and renamed the state of Assam after independence. However, NEFA became a Union Territory in 1972, with a significant portion being renamed Arunachal Pradesh. Arunachal Pradesh was established as a full-fledged state on 20 February 1987.

It became the 25th state of the Indian Union. This state is known for its terrain, soil, flora and fauna. To this day there is hardly any big city of the towns here. Arunachal Pradesh has the lowest population density of any state in India, with the majority of its population living near its valleys. The capital city Itanagar is home to the Legislative Assembly.

February 20, 2023 – Monday – State Day – Banks will remain closed in Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.

Mizoram

In contrast, the state of Mizoram had to face violence and insurgency to get statehood. Separatist groups sought independence from India in the 1960s and the Mizo National Front (MNF) insurgency to achieve this goal. The Indian government responded with bombings of parts of the state.

Finally in 1986 the Mizoram Peace Accord was signed between India and the MNF. After the accord, Mizoram was given statehood on 20 February 1987. It became the 23rd state of the Indian Union. More than three-fourth of the state is covered with forests. It is home to valuable timber trees. Almost the entire population of the state belongs to the Scheduled Tribes, who are commonly referred to as Mizos. Aizawl is the capital of Mizoram.
