Bangladesh Violence: Air India and Indigo operated special flights to Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka, bringing more than 400 people to India. An official said that a special Air India flight brought 205 people, including six children, to India on Wednesday morning.
Indigo said in a statement that Indigo’s special flight to bring back Indian citizens from Bangladesh took off from Dhaka to Kolkata on Tuesday.
An Air India official said the chartered flight operated by an A321 Neo aircraft departed from Dhaka on Tuesday night and brought 205 people, including six children and 199 adults, to India on Wednesday morning.
An official aware of the developments said Air India operated the special flight at a very short notice despite infrastructure challenges at the airport in Dhaka. He said there were no passengers on board the flight that took off from Delhi.

Flights operated to bring back Indian citizens
At the same time, IndiGo said in a statement, “After the temporary closure of Dhaka airport, IndiGo operated special flight 6E 8503 from Dhaka to Kolkata on August 6, 2024. This flight was operated to bring back Indian citizens from Bangladesh.”
Indigo brought 200 passengers
A source aware of the matter said that more than 200 people were brought from Dhaka to Kolkata by a special IndiGo flight. The airline also said that flight operations between India and Dhaka will resume on Wednesday and it has contacted all the affected people, as well as offered them alternative travel arrangements.
How many flights fly to Dhaka
IndiGo operates one daily flight to Dhaka from Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, and two daily flights from Kolkata. Air India will resume its two daily flights between Delhi and Dhaka from Wednesday. On Tuesday, the airline had cancelled its morning flight to the Bangladesh capital but the evening flight departed on time. Vistara will also operate flights to Dhaka as per schedule from Wednesday.
Vistara operates daily flights from Mumbai to Dhaka, while it operates three flights a week from Delhi. On the other hand, IndiGo usually operates one flight each from Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai to Dhaka, while it operates two flights from Kolkata.
The situation changed after the resignation of Sheikh Hasina
Bangladesh is facing an unprecedented political crisis after Sheikh Hasina, who was in power for the last 15 years, suddenly resigned as Prime Minister and left the country amid weeks of violent protests against the controversial reservation system, under which 30 percent of jobs were reserved for the families of those who fought in the 1971 Liberation War. More than 300 people have lost their lives in violent anti-government protests.
