APY : The total number of subscribers under the National Pension System (NPS) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) schemes has crossed the 1.35 crore mark during the financial year 2022-23.
The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) said in a statement issued on April 6 that the total number of subscribers under the Atal Pension Yojana was 1.19 crore in the last financial year. For National Pension Scheme it was 8.47 lakhs.
The fund regulator said the NPS (corporate) enrollment was around 1.54 lakh, while it was 1.28 lakh and 5.35 lakh under the central government and state governments, respectively. With an enrollment of over 10 lakh customers. The private sector’s share in NPS accounts was 60 per cent.

Atal Pension
Atal Pension Yojana (APY) was launched by the Government of India in 2015. This pension scheme is being run by the government to provide a source of income to the Indian citizens in their old age. This pension scheme is being run especially for those people who are working in the unorganized sector. Under Atal Pension Yojana, the subscriber has to invest a fixed amount on monthly, quarterly or yearly basis depending on his convenience.

The scheme is open to all Indian citizens between the age of 18 to 40 years. Any citizen who is or has been a taxpayer since 01 October 2022 is not eligible to join APY. That is, he cannot invest in this scheme. Under the Atal Pension Yojana, Rs 1000 to Rs 5000 is available every month. In case of death of the subscriber, the pension money will be received by the nominee.
