Delhi Airport T2 Temporarily Closed: There is very important news for those who travel to and from Delhi Airport. Terminal T2 of Delhi Airport is going to be temporarily closed for 6 months between April and September this year.
Terminal T2 of Delhi Airport is about 4 decades old. Delhi Airport operator DIAL said that this temporary closure is going to be for reconstruction work, which is going to take about 6 months.
The busiest airport in the country
Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) is one of the busiest airports in the country. Delhi Airport has a total of three terminals – T1, T2, T3. Out of these, only domestic flights are operated from T1 and T2.
When will the work start?
According to Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the reconstruction of T2 will begin in the financial year 2025-26 and will be completed in the second quarter (Q2) of FY26. T2 was built 40 years ago by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The airport handles around 1,300 flights daily.
Will it affect passengers?
DIAL said, “Terminal 2 will be temporarily closed for approximately 4 to 6 months to complete these renovation works. The temporary closure of Terminal 2 will cause minimal disruption to operations as the newly developed Terminal 1 is designed to handle the additional load, ensuring uninterrupted service to passengers.”
“This decades-old terminal will undergo significant upgrades, improving the passenger experience and increasing the airport’s capacity to meet future demands,” the release said.
DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said the revamp of the four-decade-old T2 is the need of the hour. He said upgrading key infrastructure, improving efficiency of operations and enhancing passenger comfort will enhance the overall experience.
He further added, “The passenger capacity of the terminal is expected to reach its peak by the financial year 2025-26. In such a situation, these improvements will be important to support the growing air travel demand from domestic passengers.”
