New Delhi. Due to the repair and modernization of the runway at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, the movement of flights will remain closed from 10 am to 6 pm every day from today i.e. March 1 to July 15.
This work is going to start after getting approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). During these one and a half months, a large number of passengers may have to face trouble, especially those passengers who have booked their tickets in advance. There are direct flights from Lucknow to places like Dubai, Jeddah, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. International flights will also be affected due to the closure of the runway.
Lucknow Airport has advised passengers on its website to contact the concerned airlines to know the status of their flights. It is estimated that 35 or more flights may be cancelled every day. On an average, more than 21 international and about 109 domestic flights were operated daily from Lucknow Airport in January this year. At the same time, the number of international passengers was 1.09 lakh and the number of domestic passengers was more than 4.77 lakh.
Some flights will be shifted to Kanpur
IndiGo has the maximum number of flights in Lucknow. According to sources, 6 to 8 flights of IndiGo will be operated from Kanpur airport. Airlines like Air India and Vistara are also rescheduling some of their services. Passengers have been advised to check the flight schedule before booking tickets.
When will flights become normal?
It is planned to complete this entire repair and construction work by 15 July 2025. Only after this will flights become normal. Till then, flights will operate only before 10 am and after 6 pm.
The runway will be improved
The runway is being recarpeted for the first time since 2018. The old layer will be removed and a new asphalt layer will be laid. This will increase the strength of the runway and reduce the chances of plane crashes. Work will be done in a total area of 1.80 lakh square meters including the runway and taxiway. The current runway of Lucknow Airport is 2,744 meters long and 45 meters wide. By building a new taxiway parallel to the runway, planes can be removed quickly, which will make flight operations faster and smoother. Old halogen lights will be replaced with LED lights.
