Air India Halal Meal: Air India has made a big announcement regarding Halal certified products. Tata-owned Air India has taken this decision keeping in mind the convenience of the passengers, under which now Halal food will not be served to Hindu and Sikh passengers.
With the merger of Vistara with Air India and the manifold increase in its operations, the airline company has now made pre-booking of food mandatory for passengers.
Halal food will have to be booked in advance
According to the new order of Tata Company-owned airline Air India, Halal certificate will now be only for ‘Muslim Food’ (MOML), which too will have to be booked in advance. All halal food will be available only in some sectors like Saudi and Haj flights. Air India said, ‘Food with MOML sticker label will be given only after pre-booking. Along with this, non-veg food will be halal for the Saudi sector. Apart from this, Halal certificate will be given to Jeddah, Dammam, Riyadh, Medina sectors along with Haj flights.’
An order also came regarding Muslim meal
Some time ago, Air India had to face a lot of criticism for naming Halal Certified Food as Muslim Meal. Now the company has decided that the word Special Meal will be used instead of Muslim Meal, for which an advisory has also been issued.
When Air India introduced food called Muslim Meal, there was a lot of opposition to it. Political parties also objected to it and it was alleged that now food is also being divided between Hindus and Muslims. After this, Tata decided that from now on Halal certified meals will be called Special Meals instead of Muslim Meals.
What did Air India say on this change?
A senior Air India official said, “We have always provided food options to passengers for convenience. Now the food service has been streamlined (due to the larger size and scale of Air India after the merger with Vistara) and food has to be booked in advance.” Let us tell you that earlier the relatively smaller Air India (before the merger with Vistara) did not put much emphasis on pre-booking of food.
