Air India-Vistara Merger: Airline company Air India is introducing a revised policy for cabin crew members of domestic and international flights. A source said that under this, members of some categories will have to share rooms during rest. The revised policy will not apply to Air India Express, which has merged AIX Connect with itself.

Increase in allowance for employees

The source said that the allowance of cabin crew on international flights will be increased from $75-125 to $85-135. There has been no change in the allowance of cabin crew on domestic flights.

An airline spokesperson said that with the formalities of merger of Air India and Vistara being completed, there is a need to Harmonise these policies for the employees of both the Organisations.

Information provided to employees

The spokesperson said, “Under this, we have informed about the changes applicable to Air India employees. The revised salaries and benefits will remain competitive and will be in line with industry standards.”

The source said that under the revised policy, cabin crew members, except for flight managers and officers, will have to share rooms during breaks during the flight. Flight managers and officers are usually senior people with at least eight-nine years of experience.

Will have to share room

Air India Express and Vistara already have a room sharing system for cabin crew. However, this will be the first time such a system will be introduced in the loss-making Air India owned by the Tata Group.

This change in policy comes amid a section of Air India Express cabin crew members seeking redressal of their human resource issues under labour laws. The matter is pending before the Central Labour Commissioner.

The merger plan will be completed next month

Meanwhile, an Air India spokesperson said the airline had introduced a performance-based compensation and benefits policy for all employees in April 2023. The merger of AEX Connect with Air India Express was completed on October 1, while the integration of Vistara with Air India will be completed next month.
