Air India has implemented a new travel policy for its employees, under which all employees are now ordered to travel in economy class. The effect of this change has come into effect from April 1.
Now the airline employees will have to follow certain special conditions to travel in premium seats, such as business class or premium economy.
What is the new rule?
Earlier Air India employees were allowed to travel in business class, but now this rule has changed. Now to upgrade employees to premium economy or business class, they will have to ensure that seats are available for all passengers. Only then will the airline employees get the benefit of upgrade.
This change will also affect the CEO, senior officers and senior commanders. Now all these employees will also have to travel in economy class. This policy will be implemented in a phased manner:
From April 1, top management (Vice President and above) will have to travel in economy class.
From June 1, senior commanders will also travel in economy class under this rule.
Why did this rule change?
A major reason behind this change is that the demand for premium class seats has increased a lot in recent times. Air India has taken this step in view of the increasing demand of passengers. The purpose of this decision is to improve the airline’s service and passenger experience. Apart from this, Air India has also announced to increase the number of premium class seats. Now 50,000 premium economy seats will be available every week in the airline’s A320 narrow-body aircraft.
