Reason for fee hike?

Delhi International Airport Limited has proposed a revision of the User Development Fee (UDF) charged from airlines and passengers. Under this proposal, the Per Passenger Revenue (YPP) may increase from the current Rs 145 to Rs 370. Currently, the User Development Fee is only Rs 77 per passenger, which will be increased and implemented under the new framework.

Impact on passengers’ pockets

  • Domestic airfare: May increase by 1.5% to 2%.
  • International fares: Less than 1% increase possible
  • New tariff slab: 30% airline charges and 70% passenger charges
  • Increase compared to 2006: approximately 140% increase.

When will the new fee be applicable?

This proposal of Delhi International Airport Limited has been submitted to the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA). If approved, this new tariff slab will be applicable from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2029.

The growing needs of Delhi airport

Delhi airport handles the movement of about 10.9 crore passengers annually. In view of the increasing crowd and demand for modern facilities, a proposal has been made to increase the fee. However, this has increased the possibility of travel becoming expensive for the passengers. Passengers will have to be prepared for this change. If the proposal is approved, the cost of air travel may be higher than before.
