New Delhi. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for updating Aadhaar card free of cost. Earlier this deadline was 14 September 2024, which has now been extended to 14 December 2024.
This means that Aadhaar holders can now update the information entered in Aadhaar online without any charge for the next 90 days. However, this service is available only online. If you want to update any information by visiting the Aadhaar center, then you will have to pay a fee for this.
According to the official website of UIDAI, Aadhaar card holders can now update their details online for free till 14 December 2024. In today’s time, Aadhaar has become a very important document, which is used for many purposes including government schemes, opening bank accounts, booking train and flight tickets. The Aadhaar card contains demographic information of every person such as name, address, age, gender, and biometric data.
Is it mandatory to update Aadhaar?
It is not mandatory to update Aadhaar. UIDAI has clarified many times that it is not necessary to update Aadhaar. However, if the Aadhaar card is old, then updating it can prove beneficial. UIDAI has suggested that it would be appropriate to update the documents related to identity and address proof. If your Aadhaar has an old address or photo, then updating it will be beneficial for you. But, even if you do not update your 10-year-old Aadhaar, your Aadhaar card will continue to work as before and it will not be blocked or suspended.
Methods of updating Aadhaar
Aadhaar can be updated both online and offline. That is, you can go to the Aadhaar center and correct any wrong information entered in your Aadhaar. Apart from this, you can also update Aadhaar online from home for free.
How to update Aadhaar online
- Visit the official website of UIDAI https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/.
- Enter your mobile number and get OTP and login by entering the OTP.
- Check all your details like address etc.
- If any information is incorrect, select the option to change it.
- Upload the required document proof to update the information.
- After this click on the submit button.
- You will get a 14 digit Update Request Number (URN). With this, you can track the process of Aadhaar update.
