The linking process was completely free before March 31, 2022. After this, many people also had to pay a fine of Rs 1000 for linking PAN number with Aadhaar. Then the government had extended the PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline till March 31, 2023, but kept the rule of Rs 1000 fine in force.

In such a situation, officials of the Income Tax Department said that the government may extend the deadline for linking PAN-Aadhaar by a few more months and the Income Tax Department may soon issue a notification for this. The decision to provide more time to taxpayers to link PAN with Aadhaar comes just before the current deadline expires on March 31, 2023.

1000 rupees penalty will have to be given

According to the Income Tax Department, all PAN holders who do not fall under the tax exemption category as per the May 2017 notification must link their PAN with Aadhaar, failing which your PAN will become inactive. The Income Tax Department in a tweet last month said that PAN can be linked with a valid Aadhaar after paying a fee of Rs 1000 at http://www.incometax.gov.in.

The government had increased the penalty by 9 months

The deadline for Aadhaar-PAN linking has been extended several times for earlier individuals. The linking process was free before March 31, 2022. A fee of Rs 500 was imposed from April 1, 2022 and was later increased to Rs 1,000 from July 1, 2022. Let us tell you that this time again the government can give relief to the common people by extending the deadline for Aadhaar-PAN linking.
