According to a notification issued on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEiTY) has permitted RGIs to use the Aadhaar database for identity verification in the birth and death registration process, according to reports . given.
However, it added that the registrar appointed under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 will be given the option of Yes or No on a voluntary basis for verification of the Aadhaar number being collected along with other details sought in the reporting form. Guidelines will have to be followed
The notification states that the State Governments and Union Territories will follow the guidelines set by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology regarding the use of administrative Aadhaar verification. As per the norms, state governments intending to use Aadhaar verification in this regard will prepare a proposal to justify it and place it before the central government with reference to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
