Let us tell you that in the cabinet meeting held on Friday, the amendment in One Rank One Pension was approved by the Modi government. After the meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said that along with the pensioners, the widows of the soldiers who died in the war and disabled pensioners will also get its benefit. He told that 25 lakh pensioners will get its benefit and the government will have an additional burden of about Rs 8500 crore.
What’s new
According to the decision of the Union Cabinet, the pension of the previous pensioners will be re-fixed on the basis of the average of the minimum and maximum pension of the Defense Force retirees of the calendar year 2018 in the same rank with the same length of service. This means that the pension will also be the same for the same rank retired from the armed forces. Talking about the cut-off date, the pension of Armed Forces/Family Pensioners has been revised from 1st July 2019.

Who will get benefit?
Revision of pension under the OROP scheme will benefit the Armed Forces personnel retiring by June 30, 2019. However, those who retired prematurely from July 1, 2014 have not been included in the amendment. The amendment will benefit more than 25.13 lakh armed forces pensioners and family pensioners. It also includes more than 4.52 lakh new beneficiaries.
The cabinet also decided that pension will be protected for above average drawals and its benefits will be extended to family pensioners including war widows and disabled pensioners.
