Toll Tax: If you are planning to visit the beautiful valleys of Himachal Pradesh, then get ready to increase the travel budget a little more. The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to increase the toll tax from April 1, 2025.
The government has made this increase for the maintenance of the roads of the state and improvement of infrastructure.
According to the report, there are a total of 55 toll barriers in Himachal Pradesh, where new rates will be implemented. Travelling will be expensive especially on those routes which are very important from the tourism point of view. Like Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala and Dalhousie. The increase in toll rates will be especially seen in Una (15 toll barriers), Solan (13 toll barriers) and Sirmaur (8 toll barriers) districts.
How much tax will have to be paid now?
Himachal Pradesh Toll Tax Hike: Under the new rates, the 24-hour pass for private vehicles has increased from Rs 60 to Rs 70. At the same time, passenger vehicles with six to 12 seats will have to pay Rs 110. For big buses, this fee has been increased to Rs 180. The transport sector will be most affected, where the toll for heavy cargo trucks has increased from Rs 550 to Rs 570.
Who will have to pay how much tax?
- Private car: Rs 70 (earlier Rs 60)
- 6-12 seater passenger vehicle: Rs 110
- Vehicles with more than 12 seats: Rs 180
- Vehicles weighing more than 250 quintals: Rs 720
- Vehicles weighing 120-250 quintals: Rs 570
- Carts weighing 90-120 quintals: Rs 320 (earlier Rs 300)
- Carts weighing 20-90 quintals: Rs 170 (earlier Rs 150)
- Vehicles weighing less than 20 quintals: Rs 130 (earlier Rs 110)
- Private and government tractors: Rs 70 (earlier Rs 50)
The aim is to improve road connectivity
The Parwanoo toll plaza on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway (NH-5) will be one of the most prominent toll points affected by this increase. Tourists passing through here will now have to spend more. Apart from this, toll rates will also increase on other major highways such as Kangra-Dharamshala and Manali-Kullu routes.
The government says that this increase has been made to improve road connectivity and make travel safer and easier. Maintaining the hilly roads of Himachal is challenging and requires additional funding. The government has assured that the funds obtained from these increased rates will be properly used for road improvement, which will benefit the travelers in the long run.
