Snowfall Alert: Heavy snowfall and rain wreaks havoc in this state, orders to close school and college

Shimla. Life has come to a standstill in Himachal Pradesh due to the rain and snowfall for the last three days. Due to the rain in the state, landslides have been seen in Kinnaur and Kullu.

At the same time, due to snowfall, avalanches have occurred in Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti. Although, there is no news of any loss of life so far, but the movement on the roads has stopped. The gardeners, farmers and the general public of the state are happy with the rain and snowfall, because after a long time there is good rain and snowfall.

According to the information, it is snowing in Manali city on Friday. It rained in Shimla last night. On the other hand, due to the rain in the last 24 hours in Himachal, about 250 roads including six national highways are closed. The maximum snowfall has occurred around Shimla, Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur and Manali and due to snowfall here, life has come to a standstill. Due to snowfall and rain, schools and colleges have been closed in three districts of the state. These include Chamba, Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur. On the other hand, orders have been issued to close educational institutions in Manali sub-division, Nirmand, Banjar and Ani sub-division of Kullu district. However, board exams will be held as per the scheduled schedule.

Where are the roads closed?

According to the information received from the government and police administration, the highway from Kufri to Fagu in Shimla is open, but the highway from here to Narkanda is closed. Because there was heavy snowfall here last night. Similarly, the highway is also closed for Theog Hatkoti Rohru. The highway was closed due to shooting stones falling from the hill ahead of Jhakri in Kinnaur and efforts are being made to restore it on Friday. There is Rampur Luhri Aut National Highway in Kullu and heavy snow has fallen on the Leh Manali Highway and about two feet of snowfall has occurred in Solang Valley so far. The Chandigarh Manali Highway has been closed due to landslide near Aut between Mandi and Kullu and there is a long jam.

Lahaul Spiti has been the worst hit and schools and colleges have been closed for the second consecutive day. Lahaul Spiti has received around five feet of snowfall in three days and this area is cut off from the country and the world. Around 150 roads are closed here and electricity and water supply have stopped. A lake has formed due to blockage of a Jeera Nala by a landslide in Tosh Valley of Kullu and danger is looming around the Parvati River.

DC Kullu Torul S Ravish said that there has been continuous rain and snowfall in Kullu district for two days and traffic on two national highways is closed due to heavy snowfall. The DC said that on Thursday a snow avalanche fell in Dhundhi near Atal Tunnel. However, there was no damage due to this.

Mahashivratri festival begins amidst rain

Mahashivratri festival started in Mandi on Thursday and it rained throughout the day and people were seen with umbrellas in the royal procession of Shivratri. Due to rain and bad weather, the CM had to leave the helicopter and reach Mandi by road. Devlu and the general public participated in the procession with full enthusiasm without caring about the rain showers. CM Sukhu also reached Paddal ground in an open jeep with an umbrella in his hand, accepting the greetings of the people.

Where are the landslides and avalanches

Landslides and avalanches have also been seen due to rain and snowfall. There has been an avalanche in Sangla Valley of Kinnaur. Similarly, an avalanche occurred in Kain village of Tindi Panchayat of Lahaul Spiti on Thursday and snow started flowing in the drain. Due to landslide in Tosh Valley of Kullu, Jeera Nala stopped and a lake has formed on the hill above. An alert has been issued around the Parvati river here. It is worth noting that NH-5 (Manali-Leh), NH-305 (Ani-Kullu-Jalori Pass), Bharmour-Pathankot and Shimla-Rampur highways were blocked. Due to bad weather, police recruitment in Solan and Dharamshala was also postponed. Last night in Narkanda, the police carried out a rescue operation and evacuated people and vehicles stranded on the highway.

It is worth noting that the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh for Friday. The weather is expected to remain clear on March 1 and 2, but due to the activation of another western disturbance on March 3 and 4, rain and snowfall may occur again in many areas.
