In Amritsar, a bandh has been announced in many districts of Punjab regarding the sacrilege case of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. According to the information, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Phagwara, Nawanshahr, Hoshiarpur and Moga are completely closed in Punjab today, January 28.
Meanwhile, due to the call for Jalandhar Bandh, many private schools in the city have declared holidays. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of the schools. Holidays have been declared in Innocent Hearts School, Guru Amardas School and many other private schools in Jalandhar.
Let us tell you that on Republic Day, a youth at the Heritage Street in Amritsar hit the statue of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar with a hammer and burnt the Constitution book kept there. However, the people caught the accused and handed him over to the police.
The Dalit community today staged protests in Amritsar, Phagwara, Jalandhar and several other districts of Punjab. They have called for a bandh in three districts of the state, Hoshiar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana, on January 28.
However, the police have registered a case against the accused and started the investigation. The accused has been identified as Akash Singh, a resident of Dharamkot. Meanwhile, Akash Singh’s family says that our family lives in a rented house in Dharamkot. They are three brothers and a sister.
Akashdeep and his brother are unmarried. His family is a labourer and belongs to the Scheduled Caste community. The mother says that he has not had any communication with us for the last three years. He came to meet us three-four years ago before going to Dubai. We have come to know from people that he was living in Amritsar for the past four months. Akash’s mother said that whatever he has done is wrong and he should be punished for it.
