The MSP of raw jute was Rs 2400 per quintal in 2014-15. It has increased to Rs 5650 per quintal for the 2025-26 marketing season. This means that during a decade, the government has increased the MSP of raw jute by 2.35 times. The effect of increasing the MSP of raw jute is also visible in the shares of jute companies. The shares of Ludlow Jute have jumped by more than 4 percent.

The Union Cabinet led by PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday gave a big gift to jute farmers. It has increased the minimum support price (MSP) of raw jute by 6 percent i.e. Rs 315 for the marketing season 2025-26. Now farmers will get Rs 5650 for one quintal of raw jute. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has given this information after the cabinet meeting.

Piyush Goyal said that the new MSP ensures a return of 66.8 percent on the all-India weighted average production cost. This will benefit the farmers a lot. The MSP of raw jute was Rs 2,400 per quintal in 2014-15. It has become Rs 5,650 per quintal for the 2025-26 marketing season. This means that during a decade, the government has increased the MSP of raw jute by 2.35 times.

Action in jute company shares
The effect of increasing the MSP of raw jute is also visible in the shares of jute companies. Shares of Ludlow Jute & Specialities Ltd have jumped by more than 4 percent. It was trading at Rs 238.90 with a jump of 4.64 percent on NSE. Cheviot Co Ltd is also associated with the jute industry. Its shares have also jumped by more than 1 percent.
