IMD Alert: The entire North India including Delhi-NCR is currently in the grip of severe cold. The cold has increased further due to dense fog and rain. A western disturbance has become active from the night of January 10, due to which the Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain and snowfall in many states between January 12 and 14. Also, an alert has been issued for hailstorm and thunderstorm in some areas.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of light to moderate rain in North-West India, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Rains may occur with hailstorm and thunderstorms in some areas. Snowfall is expected especially in the western Himalayan region, which has led to a drop in temperature.
Apart from this, due to a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, heavy rains with thunderstorms are expected in South India. Heavy rains may occur in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry on January 13.
Fog and cold wave alert in these states
Dense fog is expected in many states of North India between January 12 and 15. Fog will persist in the morning and night in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh. Along with this, cold wave is forecast in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh till January 14. ‘Cold day’ conditions may also occur in some areas, due to which the cold is likely to increase further.
The weather pattern is also going to change in the states of South India. There is a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu during 13 and 14 January.
