The central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the second phase of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U 2.0), a scheme to provide affordable housing to the urban poor and middle class families. Under this scheme, financial assistance will be provided to more than one crore urban families in the next five years to build, purchase or rent houses.

Under this scheme, the central government will provide assistance of Rs 2.30 lakh crore. In the first phase, a target of 1.18 crore houses was set. Out of these, 85.5 lakh houses have been constructed and handed over to the eligible beneficiaries. The main objective of PMAY-U is to provide ‘Puck’ houses with all the facilities to the eligible beneficiaries in urban areas.
Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY 2.0) Scheme
One lakh new houses will be built under PMAY 2.0. A subsidy of Rs 2.30 lakh will be given on each of these houses. Apart from this, many other points have been included in the scheme, such as Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH) and Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS).
How to apply for PMAY 2.0:
- First of all, visit the official website pmay-urban.gov.in.
- Click on the ‘Apply for PMAY-U 2.0’ option on the homepage.
- Read all guidelines and instructions carefully.
- Write your annual income and other information. Verify yourself.
- Verify Aadhaar card information.
- Fill in the application with address, proof of income, and other necessary information.
Read the form carefully before submitting it. The status of the application can also be tracked on the portal. Applicants are advised to apply on time and check the status of their application on the portal regularly.
Documents required to avail this scheme are Aadhaar card of the applicant and family members, active Aadhaar-linked bank account, income certificate, caste certificate, land or house owner documents.
