The Indian Ocean thickens somewhat during the northeast monsoon season. Due to this, storm activity gradually reaches its peak in November. However this time it is somewhat dull. The only post-monsoon storm in this season was ‘Dana’.

Storm Dana made landfall as a severe cyclone in October 2024. In no time, Dana became a severe Cat-1 cyclone and wreaked havoc in the areas bordering the Bay of Bengal. Cyclone Dana hit the Odisha coast near Dhamra port on the intervening night of October 24-25.

The storm may intensify from November 21 to 23, although there are signs of a new cyclone in the Bay of Bengal once again. This is what IMD says. However, according to the Met department report, this cyclone will have a completely different track and impact on the Indian coastline.

According to the Met department forecast, a cyclone is likely to form in the Andaman Sea south of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 21 November 2024. This cyclone may intensify between November 22 and 23. If this happens, a low pressure area may form in the region by November 23. The IMD estimates that a depression is likely to form by November 23.

This time Sri Lanka will face disaster!

According to the IMD report, the low pressure will gradually strengthen and move towards the west and north-west, after which it will intensify and then take the form of a cyclonic storm. The IMD has indicated that the system will eventually hit northern Sri Lanka on November 26 and 27.

However, at the same time, the Meteorological Department has informed that it is not possible to make a final prediction about this cyclone and estimate its track and intensity at this stage of the season. This new system and its movement in the coming days depends on what is going to happen in the coming days. By looking at the speed of this weather system, it can be understood whether a storm will come or not.

What will be the name of this storm?

However, if this system becomes a hurricane, it will be the second cyclone of this season. As suggested by member country Saudi Arabia, the next storm will be named ‘Fengal’ and ‘Feinjal’.

Incidentally, these storms that form over the Bay of Bengal in November usually move towards North Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal. Bangladesh also comes under the scope of this storm.
