D2D satellite service: Make calls and SMS without SIM, India’s first Satellite to Device service started

Government telecom company BSNL has launched Satellite-to-Device service in India. BSNL has become the first telecom company to do so. Now BSNL has finally launched it for users. BSNL D2D has partnered with California company Viasat for this technology.

The Department of Telecommunications has posted the information about the launch of this new service on X. Let us tell you that satellite connectivity is not a new technology. Let us know all the details related to it.

What is BSNL’s Satellite-to-Device service and what are its benefits?
This special service of BSNL is going to provide network in remote areas and places without network. This service will be used especially in hilly and forest areas. While launching this service, DOT has shared a short video, which shows a glimpse of satellite-to-device service.

This service will help BSNL users in situations where cellular network or Wi-Fi connectivity is not available. Along with calling, users can also send SOS i.e. emergency messages and make UPI payments through this service. The company has not clarified whether this facility will be available for normal calls and SMS or not. Let us tell you that Apple company first introduced this feature in the market with the iPhone 14 series. But this service is not available in India.
