Dilip Kumar, Executive Director Information and Publicity of Railway Board, says that apart from the train fare, reservation charge, superfast charge and GST are included in the payment for reservation. On cancellation of the ticket, the railway refunds you only the train fare. The reservation charges and GST taken from you are not refundable. Dilip Kumar says that the reservation charge is taken from you in exchange for the facility, hence it is not refundable. Apart from this, superfast charges are also taken.

What is superfast charge?

There are two types of trains running in Indian Railways, first is superfast and second is passenger and local trains. Reservations are made by passengers travelling long distances which are superfast, while passenger trains run for short distances and stop at all the stations on the way. Therefore, superfast charges are not levied on reservations in these trains.
