After the government’s FDI approval, AI-Vistara will soon inform passengers about the merger timeline. Those who have booked tickets on Vistara flights after the merger date will be informed that their flight will now be an Air India flight, along with the changed AI flight number and timings.

How will the merger affect passengers?

Sources say the date of the merger is likely to be after Diwali (November 1) as the airlines want to avoid taking any risks during the peak festive travel season. Sources said there would be a good time between after Diwali and the onset of winter which usually occurs after December 20, which disrupts flights. Ideally, the merger should happen at that time so that any initial problems of the merger can be resolved, such as passengers who have already bought Vistara tickets will be issued tickets for Air India flights in place of them. Vistara passengers will be informed about the new travel rules soon.

Vistara’s planes will continue to fly without stopping

Vistara has 70 planes which will continue to fly for the airline for the time being. After the merger, these planes will be transferred to AI. According to sources, it is not wise to take out the plane for the purpose of painting only and harm the capacity. Also, Vistara’s planes have a better cabin than the old planes of AI.

Vistara had earlier contacted passengers to inform them about transferring their frequent flyer miles to Air India’s loyalty program. Employee movement has already begun, with many Vistara employees now working from Air India’s new Gurgaon headquarters.
