As soon as this proposal gets approval from Delhi government’s Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot, the fee for pollution testing will be increased. Surprisingly, this increase can be up to 70 percent.

Why the demand for increase in fees?

About 900 PCU testing centers have been opened at petrol pumps and CNG stations in Delhi. Pump dealers say that the pollution testing fees have not been increased since 2011, i.e. for 12 years, while the cost of running a PCU testing center has increased a lot in all these years. The Petrol Dealers Association had announced a strike at all PCU centers from July 1 and closed them indefinitely. After this, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot held a meeting with the members of the association last week.

In this meeting, Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot had said that the government supports the dealers’ demand and the fee for PUC testing will be increased soon. After this assurance, the pump dealers have postponed their strike till July 11. The Transport Department has sent this file related to the proposal to Minister Kailash Gehlot. According to sources in the Transport Department, they have sent a proposal to increase the fee for PUC testing on the basis of inflation rate between 2011 and 2024.

What could be the fee for PUC examination

If this proposal of the pump dealers is approved, then the PUC fee of two and three wheeler vehicles running on petrol and CNG in Delhi will increase to Rs 102 and the fee of cars running on petrol and CNG will increase to Rs 136. Apart from this, the fee for diesel vehicles can go up to Rs 170.
