On June 17, severe heat wave may occur in Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand. However, there is also a good news in the meantime. For the northwestern states, the Meteorological Department has predicted that it may take at least four more days for the monsoon to arrive. The Meteorological Department says that in the next four days, conditions are favorable for the advance of the southwest monsoon into Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh and some more parts of the northwestern Bay of Bengal, the plains of West Bengal, the remaining parts of the sub-Himalayan West Bengal and some parts of Bihar. At present, the northern states will have to wait for a few days for relief from the heat.

Heat will continue to haunt North India including Delhi and UP.

The Meteorological Department says that the maximum temperature is likely to be 45°C or more in the areas around the national capital Delhi and north-western Punjab. The maximum temperature is likely to be 40°C in the rest of the Gangetic plain and Ahmedabad in Gujarat. The Meteorological Office said in a statement that the scorching heat has also scorched Chandigarh, the joint capital of Haryana and Punjab.

The Meteorological Department has also predicted clear skies, hot winds, intense heat, heat at night and strong winds for Monday.

Heavy rain in these states

The Meteorological Department says that during the next seven days, light to moderate rain with thunder, lightning and strong winds (30-40 kmph) is likely in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Whereas, heavy to very heavy rains may occur in West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh for the next five days. Extremely heavy rains may occur at isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya on 17-21 June. Rains may also occur in Arunachal Pradesh on June 18 and West Bengal and Sikkim on June 17-18. Heavy rains may occur at isolated places in Odisha on June 20-21. Heavy rains may occur in Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal on June 21.

Heavy rain alert

Light to moderate rain with thunder, lightning and strong winds (40-50 kmph) may occur over Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada for the next five days. Apart from this, there is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning and strong winds (30-40 kmph) over Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands till June 22. Heavy rains may occur over Kerala on June 17, 18 and 21, over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on June 18 and 21, over coastal Karnataka on June 20-21, over Konkan and Goa on June 18-21 and over Madhya Maharashtra on June 19-20.

Rain in MP, Rajasthan too

IMD says that a cyclonic circulation has formed over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining areas. Therefore, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds (40-60 kmph) is likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh during the next five days and over Rajasthan during the next two days.
