8th Pay Commission Salary Hike: Lok Sabha elections are going on, in such a situation the central government employee organizations are demanding the formation of 8th Pay Commission. However, according to reports, a new pay revision commission for central government employees is likely to be formed after the general elections.
In a letter to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the Indian Railway Technical Supervisors Association has urged the government to set up the 8th Pay Commission and remove all existing anomalies without leaving room for ‘future anomalies’.
The Department of Personnel and Training (Do&PT) has sent this letter to the Department of Expenditure (Ministry of Finance) for further action. The Ministry of Expenditure is responsible for implementing the recommendations of the Pay Commission.
10 years of 7th Pay Commission
The current 7th Pay Commission was constituted in 2014 and its recommendations came into effect in 2016. As a result, the salaries of central government employees increased by about 23 percent. Typically, a Central Pay Commission is constituted every 10 years, although it is not mandated by law.
The Pay Commission examines, reviews, develops and recommends changes in respect of the principles governing the structure of emoluments including pay, allowances and other facilities/benefits of Central Government employees and pensioners. The first pay commission was established in 1946.
What is the demand of IRTSA (8th Pay Commission)
In the letter, IRTSA has urged the government to constitute a new Central Pay Commission. She also wants the government to correct the disparities and discrepancies in pay for different groups of employees.
Also, the body of railway employees wants to allot sufficient time to the Pay Commission to resolve all the existing anomalies related to pay and allowances, working conditions, promotion pathways and post classification.
IRTSA also urged the government to engage all stakeholders and seek their views during this process. Furthermore, the Seventh Central Pay Commission also said that the pay matrix should be reviewed from time to time without waiting for a long period of 10 years.
