GPS Toll Collection: The method of toll collection is going to change soon in the country. After some time, toll will be deducted from your vehicles through GPS instead of Fastag and the vehicles will be able to complete their journey at full speed without stopping.
When the process of toll collection through Fastag was started in the country 3 years ago, it was called a game changer. However, now the time has come to change this method because toll collection in the country will be done directly through GPS.
Government plans to start GPS toll collection from March 2024
Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had said about 3 weeks ago that toll collection through GPS in the country can start from March 2024. In this series, testing of GPS based toll collection is going to start on about 10 highways of the country from next month i.e. February 2024. According to the news of Livemint, this information has been received. This clearly means that soon taking toll collection through Fastag will become a thing of the past and GPS based toll collection will become a part of people’s lives.
Pilot project will be started first
It has also been told in the news of Livemint that before starting this new GPS toll collection process across the country, its pilot project will be run on some limited highways. Through this, it will be seen how work can be done to implement it smoothly and without any problem across the country by March. This information has been given by Anurag Jain, Secretary, Ministry of Road and Transport.
How will the new GPS based toll system work?
Through the new system, toll collection will be collected through the route itself and this will eliminate the need for fixed toll plazas. For this, geofencing of the highway will be done which will be accomplished through Global Positioning System (GPS) or Radio Frequency Identification (RFID).
