Keeping in view the various changes made from time to time in the existing KYC framework, it has been decided by the competent authority that the use of paper-based KYC process will be discontinued with effect from the instructions dated 09.08.2012. This step is expected to control the cases of SIM fraud. This is also likely to reduce customer acquisition costs for telecom companies.

The process of the paper-based customer verification system requires customers to fill the acquisition form, affix a photograph and attach proof of identity and proof of address with the form.
