A meeting was held today with the government and social media companies to deal with the growing threat of deepfake technology. Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology and Communications Ashwini Vaishnav chaired the meeting.

After the meeting on the deep fake issue, Union Minister for Communications, Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnav said, “We have all agreed that within the next 10 days or so, we will come up with clear actionable items. All companies, all platforms, and the entire industry understood that this is not free speech.
They understood that this is something that is really harmful to the society. He understood the need for much stricter regulation on this. So we agree that we will start drafting the regulation today. “We will begin drafting the rules today and within a very short time frame, we will have a new set of rules for deep fakes.”
Earlier on November 18, Ashwini Vaishnav had said that the government has issued a notice to all major social media platforms to stop deepfake content and there will be a meeting with these platforms soon. Speaking on the deepfake issue, Ashwini Vaishnav has said that it is a very serious problem. Deepfakes are a big issue for all of us.
