Both public and private banks across the country may be affected by the strike. According to the notification issued by the association, a 6-day strike is planned in December. Let us know which bank is on strike on which date.

December 4: Strikes are planned at Punjab National Bank (PNB), State Bank of India (SBI), and Punjab & Sind Bank.

5 December: There is strike in Bank of Baroda and Bank of India.
6 December: There is strike in Canara Bank and Central Bank of India.
7 December: There is strike in Indian Bank and UCO Bank.
8 December: There is strike in Union Bank of India and Bank of Maharashtra.
December 11: Private banks will also join the strike.
Please note that banks will remain closed on 9th and 10th December due to weekly holidays – Saturday and Sunday.

What is the reason for the strike: Actually, there is some demand from the bank employees. This includes preventing outsourcing of permanent jobs in the banking sector besides ensuring adequate recruitment of ‘award staff’ in all banks.

AIBEA general secretary CH Venkatachalam had earlier pointed out that outsourcing of jobs by some banks is putting customers’ privacy and their money at risk besides reducing recruitment at the grassroots level. At the same time, some banks are also violating the Industrial Disputes (Amendment) Act.

Due to this strike, banking services are likely to be disrupted across the country. Customers may face challenges in accessing various banking services due to absence of staff in many branches during this period.
