On the notes withdrawn from circulation, the Central Bank said that more than 97 percent of the Rs 2,000 notes have returned to the banking system. RBI said that now only Rs 10,000 crore notes are left with the people. Let us tell you that on May 19 this year, the Reserve Bank had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes from circulation.

Now Rs 10000 crore notes left in the market

Along with the withdrawal of Rs 2000 notes from circulation, there was also a facility to deposit these notes in banks and exchange them with other smaller notes. The Reserve Bank said in a notification that ‘the total value of Rs 2,000 notes in circulation was Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the close of business on May 19, 2023. Now it has come down to Rs 10,000 crore on October 31, 2023.

More than 97 percent of the notes have been returned.

According to RBI, out of the total notes worth Rs 2,000, more than 97 percent have been returned. The last date for depositing these notes in banks was fixed as 7th October. In such a situation, these notes can no longer be deposited in banks. But if you have remaining notes, then Rs 2,000 notes can be deposited or exchanged in 19 regional offices of the Reserve Bank.

It was also reported in the media that after the last date, long queues were being seen outside the RBI to exchange or deposit Rs 2,000 notes. Not only this, some people are even standing in line to exchange notes of Rs 300 per Rs 10,000.
