Online Marriage Registration : If you are married, then it is important to have your marriage certificate, because it is a sure proof that you have been married.
However, you can register your marriage by going to the Magistrate office or Registrar office. But without running around, you can apply for marriage certificate sitting at home.
Let us tell you that registration can be done at the place where the husband and wife reside. Most of the state governments have made the process of applying for marriage certificate online. Many states have provided the facility of certificate to the people on the local body portal. You can register on the portal of the state government of the state where you want to register your marriage. The registration steps given below are for Delhi.
How to apply
1. First of all you have to go to https://edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in/ and sign up with your Aadhaar or voter number.
2. When the new page opens, fill all the information. Now enter your mobile number.
3. After logging in to e-district, when the new page opens, go to Registration of Marriage and click on it.
4. To apply for marriage certificate, attach necessary documents like birth certificate of both (so that it can be confirmed that the age of the boy is 21 years and the age of the girl is above 18 years), 4 passport size photographs, marriage card etc.
5. After which you will get an acknowledgment slip. Along with this, its details will also be sent to your mobile number and email ID.
Registration Fee
A fee has to be paid at the time of registration. This fee is different in every state. In Delhi, one has to pay Rs 100 for a general certificate. Instant marriage certificate means if you want the certificate on the same day of application, then you have to pay an additional fee of Rs 10,000.
Benefit of marriage certificate
1. If you want to open a joint bank account after marriage, then you will have to submit a marriage certificate.
2. Marriage certificate is also required while applying for passport.
3. If husband and wife want to apply for travel visa or NRI, then marriage certificate will have to be submitted.
4. Marriage certificate is useful for any kind of legal matter like divorce petition, complaint about fraud.
