Income Tax Return: The last date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR due date) for the assessment year 2023-24 is 31st July. About 2.50 crore ITRs have been filed so far. Two weeks are now left. But still a large number of income tax payers have not yet filed their returns. The government has given an important warning to them.

After extending the deadline for filing returns twice in a row, the government is not planning to extend this deadline any more. Last time too, the government did not extend the deadline for filing returns.

According to Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra, the Finance Ministry is not considering extending the July 31 deadline for filing Income Tax Return (ITR). He also asked the income tax payers to file returns at the earliest. Malhotra said that we expect more returns to be filed this year compared to last year. About 5.83 crore income tax returns were filed till July 31 last year.

More than 2.5 crore ITR filed

According to the dashboard available on the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal, so far 11,30,85,146 individual users have registered themselves on the portal. At the same time, 2,61,07,869 income tax returns have been filed so far. Out of these, about 2,40,69,116 returns have been verified. Of the total returns filed by the Income Tax Department so far, 1,12,91,905 returns have been processed.
