2000 Rupee Currency: The Reserve Bank of India made a big announcement on Friday saying that 2000 Rupees Note will be withdrawn. It will have to be deposited in banks by September 30, 2023.
Finance Secretary TV Somanathan said that the use of Rs 2000 notes has come down due to the increase in digital transactions. It was introduced during 2016, when it was more used, but now its trend has reduced in the market. Keeping in view the proliferation of electronic transactions, there is no longer any need to carry high denomination notes, he added.
This note was introduced after demonetisation in 2016. The reason for its removal from circulation is fake currency, damaged currency and lack of use.
The Reserve Bank of India said that the account holder can exchange Rs 2000 notes through the Business Correspondent Center with a limit of Rs 4000 in a day. However, for this it is necessary to have a bank account whereas it is not necessary to have a bank account to exchange 2000 rupee note in any bank branch.
The Reserve Bank has said that any citizen can exchange Rs 2,000 notes from any bank at a time up to a limit of Rs 20,000. It is not necessary to have a bank account for this. The system of exchange of notes will be free and no person will have to pay any charge for this.
10 notes of 2000 can be changed at a time in the bank
RBI says that from May 23, 2023, the limit of converting Rs 2000 notes into notes of other denominations can be increased up to Rs 20,000 at a time in any bank. RBI said that anyone can exchange Rs 2,000 notes up to Rs 20,000 at a time. The facility of exchanging notes in banks will be available from May 23. RBI has said that all banks will provide deposit or exchange facility for 2000 rupee notes by 30 September 2023.
What to do if you have 2000 note?
People who have Rs 2,000 notes can deposit them in their bank or exchange them for other denomination bank notes at any bank branch. These notes can be deposited in bank accounts in the normal way without any restrictions.
What if Rs 2000 note is found to be fake?
If any counterfeit note is detected by the bank in the process of exchange, the note will be confiscated and the stamp of the counterfeit note will be affixed. Each such forfeited note shall be entered in a separate register under authentication. Counterfeit notes will not be returned to the customer in any case or any amount will be given in lieu thereof.
