Aadhaar Bank Account Link Status : Aadhaar is a 12 digit identification number, which is the ID of any individual. Aadhaar card in the country is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
This 12 digit number works as a proof of identity and address anywhere in India. Aadhaar is a digital ID for citizens and serves as an online and offline identity card for residents across the country. It also works as an identity card of people offline and helps in availing benefits of many government schemes.
Is it mandatory to link bank account with Aadhaar?
It is necessary to give Aadhaar number in the bank account. Under the Third Amendment Rule 2019 of Money Laundering, if you want to take advantage of any government scheme, it is necessary to link Aadhaar with the bank. Aadhaar is an important KYC document for other banking services. However, if you do not wish to submit Aadhaar, you can submit any other ID as prescribed by the Reserve Bank of India.
Upholding the constitutional validity of Aadhaar, the Supreme Court had said in September 2018 that it is not mandatory for citizens to provide Aadhaar to open a bank account. If they are availing government subsidy then Aadhaar has to be given for bank account.
