7th Pay Commission : The central government has taken a big decision for the central employees. Now they will be given dress allowance not once a year, but twice.
This decision has been taken keeping in mind the demand of the employees which has been going on for 7 years. This has been notified in the circular issued by the Finance Ministry on 24 March 2025.
Defense employees will get relief
This step of the government has brought relief to those employees who join service in the middle of the year. Now they will get dress allowance in the correct proportion according to their service period, which will maintain financial balance. This change will not only increase transparency but will also create satisfaction and trust among the employees.
Earlier dress allowance was available only in July
Earlier, the dress allowance was paid in lump sum in the month of July every year, which caused loss to those employees who joined the service after July. Now under the new pro-rata payment process, the employee will get dress allowance based on the period from the month of joining to June of the next year.
What is dress allowance?
According to the notification of the Finance Ministry in August 2017, dress allowance includes clothing allowance, shoe allowance, kit maintenance allowance, robe allowance etc. This amount is given to those employees who have to wear a special dress during duty.
How will payment be made with the new formula?
Now the ministry will decide the process of pro-rata payment through a formula. This will bring transparency among the employees. For example, if an employee is to get a dress allowance of Rs 20,000 annually and he joins the service in August, then he will get: (Rs 20,000 / 12) x 11 = Rs 18,333.
Which employees will get how much dress allowance?
