According to RBI, these reports are not correct. Officials said that these reports are based on misinterpretation of information taken from the mint under the Right to Information Act, 2005. Keep in mind that all the bank notes supplied from the mint to the RBI are properly accounted for.

RBI’s statement on missing note

On behalf of the RBI, it was said that it should also be noted that there are strong systems in place for matching the banknotes printed at the mint and supplied to the Reserve Bank of India, which include protocols for monitoring the production, storage and distribution of banknotes. It is an appeal to rely on the information issued by RBI from time to time in such cases.

RBI’s decision on notes

It is noteworthy that earlier on May 19, RBI had decided to withdraw Rs 2000 notes from circulation. However, it was also said that the 2000 note will remain legal tender. However, RBI has directed banks to stop issuing Rs 2000 notes with immediate effect. People who have 2000 rupee notes can exchange or deposit them by going to the bank and regional branch of RBI. On the other hand, people who do not have a bank account can go to any bank branch and exchange Rs 2,000 notes up to Rs 20,000 at a time.

currency exchange deadline

Let us tell you that for the purpose of completing this exercise in a time-bound manner and giving enough time to the public, September 30 has been fixed as the last date. However, depending on the situation going forward, RBI may consider the deadline of September. 2000 note was issued in November 2016 and after about 7 years it was taken out of circulation.
