Rupees 2000 Note: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on January 11 that due to operational reasons, notes of Rs 2,000 will not be able to be exchanged in the Mumbai local office of RBI on January 12, 2024. RBI said that this service will restart on Monday, January 15, 2024. On January 1, RBI said that 97.38 percent of Rs 2,000 notes in circulation by May 19, 2023 have been withdrawn from the banking system.
The total value of bank notes declined to Rs 9,330 crore by the close of business on December 29, 2023. It was Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the close of business on May 19, 2023. When the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 bank notes was announced.

People can send their Rs 2,000 notes to the specified regional office of the Reserve Bank through post office to deposit them in their bank accounts. This is a hassle-free option for those who cannot go to the local office. Apart from this, RBI is also offering TLR (Triple Lock Receptacle) form to the people to deposit Rs 2,000 notes in their bank account.
On May 19, RBI announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 bank notes from circulation. More than 97 percent of the Rs 2,000 bank notes in circulation have been returned as of May 19, 2023. Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das said that a separate line has been arranged for senior citizens and disabled people in the locker office in Delhi.
